The highly controversial yet popular reality show Bigg Boss is all set to start a new venture today with Bigg Boss OTT. While Salman Khan will take on the hosting job on the TV version of the show, the OTT venture will be hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar.
Usually, it is said that the contestants who enter Bigg Boss are people who are going through a low phase in their career or are looking for a way to revive it. The reality show indeed has given rise to some careers in the long run as well, and not just momentary fandom. There have been contestants like Sidharth Shukla, Shehnaaz Gill, Rupali Ganguly and Shweta Tiwari who went on to become bigger names on TV than they were before entering the show, but the show has given rise to some film careers as well. Let’s take a look:
Amit Sadh (Season 1)
It has been so long since season 1 aired on TV that people might have even forgotten that Amit indeed participated in the show. The Kai Po Che! actor took a while before getting his big break even after the show ended, but today he is one of the most talented actors out there in Bollywood whose name is associated with quality cinema. He has been a part of some impressive films like Sultan, Shakuntala Devi, Gold and Super 30.
Sunny Leone (Season 5)
Sunny entered Bigg Boss as one of the most controversial contestants on the show as she came here after quitting the adult film industry in the West. During the show, she gained immense popularity and her pole dance on “Ye Mera Deewanapan Hai” was marketed heavily. Her reach and success were so much that Mahesh Bhatt went on the show himself to offer her his film Jism 2 which later served as her Hindi film debut. After that, there was no looking back for Sunny, who went on to do multiple films and dance numbers in Bollywood.
Gauahar Khan (Season 7)
The season 7 winner might not have done much consistent work in films post winning the show, but she has been a regular feature on Bigg Boss, almost every season. As for films, she went on to do Begum Jaan alongside Vidya Balan and also the recently released 14 Phere, with Vikrant Massey and Kriti Kharbanda.
Gautam Gulati (Season 8)
After winning season 8, Gautam took a break from daily soaps on TV and tried his luck in films. He was seen as cricketer Ravi Shastri in Emraan Hashmi-starrer Azhar, followed by Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan’s Behen Hogi Teri, Virgin Bhanupriya opposite Urvashi Rautela and this year, he acted in one of his biggest projects of his career till date as one of the villains opposite Salman Khan in Radhe.
Nora Fatehi (Season 9)
Nora made an appearance on the ninth season of the show where she failed to reach the finals but her career graph changed drastically after the show. She became the go-to person for dance numbers in Bollywood. Her biggest hits include Dilbar, Kamariya, Saaki Saaki and Garmi among others. In the last few years, her acting talent was also recognised as she was given a break in Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor’s Street Dancer 3D and her next big film, Bhuj: The Pride Of India featuring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha, is up for release this weekend.
